FIRST FIBA REFEREE COURSE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED

In a commitment to capacity building, the South Sudan Basketball Federation (SSBF) recently hosted a referees training program in Juba, South Sudan. The training was the first of two planned sessions for the second quarter of the year.

The first training session brought together 16 trainees from four states and two administrative areas. The course was conducted by FIBA Instructor Mr. Kirabo Peter Fredrick, who led the trainees through the FIBA Referee Level 1 course. The curriculum included in-depth instruction on FIBA rules and interpretations, individual officiating techniques, and other essential topics. Upon completion of the training, participants underwent a series of assessments, earning them certificates of participation and attendance for their efforts. A necessary step toward potential FIBA licensing opportunities in the future.

The (SSBF) aims to continue offering such courses to enhance referees' knowledge and prepare them to officiate games not only within South Sudan but also in regional and international arenas. Our commitment is to continue building and elevate the sport’s standards within the basketball community.

The capacity building progress in South Sudan Basketball Federation is indeed a great step towards the right direction of building quality technical officiating personalities. The course held emphasized the use of appropriate FIBA signals and mechanics and also emphasized the right application of the FIBA rules.

The second referee training is scheduled to take place in May 2024 encompassing participants from the remaining states, ensuring complete coverage across South Sudan in this activity.
