Wau Basketball Court Renovated
We are happy to unveil the long awaited Wau Basketball Court and announce its completion.
Wau is the state capital of Western Bahr El-Ghazal and one of South Sudan's largest cities. The historic basketball court of the area was established in the 1970s, a pivotal decade for basketball in what was known then as Sudan.
The Western Bahr El-Ghazal State Basketball Association (WBGBA) received and inaugurated the newly renovated court during a celebration that brought together athletes, officials and the people of the area at the Wau Sports Complex.
This is the fourth facility that the South Sudan Basketball Federation has constructed. While others remain underway, this is a major milestone in South Sudan's infrastructural development for the game.
Fun fact: Bright Star Koch Bar kick-started his basketball journey at the age of 13 at the Wau Basketball Court. Bar is currently a Senior Men’s team player and fan favorite.
