Women’s League Awards Ceremony

In September 2022, the South Sudan Basketball Federation successfully launched the first ever women’s league in South Sudan.

The league commenced with six teams that competed over a three month season; Nile Legends, Fula Stars, Mighty 64, Golden Heroines, Oil Starlets and Dove Queens. The league ended in November 2022, kicking off the process of developing local talents and women in basketball.

The Awards Ceremony

An Awards Ceremony held by the (SSBF) in Juba, South Sudan gathered the local basketball community and awarded the championship trophy and a cash prize of 1,000,000 SSP to Golden Heroines; while Dove Queens (2nd place) and Fula Stars (3rd place) earned cash prizes of 800,000 and 600,000 SSP.

In addition, individual trophies for outstanding performances were awarded to players; 17 year old Olivia Doki (MVP - Regular Season & Playoffs), Nana Lokuku (Best Center), Aziza Ramzy (Best Point Guard), Sophie Augustino (Most Defensive), Ajok Deng (Most Improved), and Emmanuella Kuku (Top Scorer).

The individual awards extended further to Joseph Madut as Best Ref and Suzana Awal scooped the Coach of Year award in Women’s Category.

Only the Beginning

President of the South Sudan Basketball Federation, Luol Deng, was present to celebrate the women's achievements and reiterated his commitment to women in basketball, stating that this is only the beginning of a long process of building and a goal that the Federation is determined to achieve.
