Triple Champion: Rose Akon

Congratulations are in order for a stunning all year around performance by Senior Women National Team Player, Rose Akon.

Akon made her debut for the South Sudan Women's National Team in early 2023, contributing to the team's first victory in history.

Fast forward to April 2023, Rose bags first Championship of the year in Kigali, Rwanda with APR Women’s Basketball Club who were crowned 2022/23 Women’s Basketball League Champions.

Fun fact: The previous year for the 2021/22 season, Rose won the same championship with REG Women’s Basketball Club and was also MVP of the tournament.

Subsequently, the rising star won the Throne Cup 2022/23 and the National Women Championship with Majd Tanja Women's Basketball Club in Morocco.

SSBFED Media asked the triple champion, what’s next for Akon Rose and here is what she had to say — “I will be playing in Europe next season can’t really go into details about this since am still working on it. But yes I’m looking forward to doing great things on that side of the world.”

On thoughts or words of encouragement for the South Sudanese girl/boy and aspiring athlete, Rose’s words are worth concluding this piece with.

“What kept me going is my undying passion for this game otherwise I would have given up already. I was my own biggest support system in the beginning, clapped for myself even when nobody did. My own family wanted me to do something else.

Anyways dear South Sudanese girl or boy it doesn’t matter where you come from or what you have been through please know that I’m working extremely hard so that you have people to inspire you when you feel things ain’t going your way”
