Kuany signs with Karhu Basket
Karhubasket, who won last season’s Finnish championship, has signed a one-year contract with 28-year-old, Kuany Kuany.
Kuany holds both South Sudan and Australia passports and will arrive in the country at the end of August or beginning of September, after the South Sudan national team has finished the qualifying games.
Kuany played the 2013-2017 seasons of college basketball at the second level of the NCAA, in Chaminade’s team. 111 varsity games averaged 14.4 points and 7.9 rebounds. He also dished out 2.2 assists per game.
After his university career, Kuany played several seasons in the Australian NBL league. Last season he played in Croatia in the A-1 league for KK Vrijednosnice Osijek. In 28 matches, playing time was almost 24 minutes per match and a line of 13.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists was recorded in the statistics.
“We are looking for an athletic thrower for the 3/2 position who can be dangerous in the attack even without the ball,” Karhubasket’s coach Janne Koskimies says.
“We are getting a tough class thrower, fighter and effective team player for Kauhajoki.”
The fact that he has been chosen as captain both in the national team of South Sudan and last season in Croatia speaks positively of the man’s reliability. Last season in Croatia, Kuany was one of the most effective finishers in the entire series, and I believe that a player of his style will stand out even better with us when there are more experienced and skilled players around.
